This small
selection was created in mind for us to play small actions in the
Pacific theatre. The Australian 2/2 Independent Company harassed
occupying forces of the Imperial Japanese army on the island of Timor.
Timor, a former Portuguese colony, is just north of Australia and a
strategic position to potentially launch operations against the
Australian mainland. 2/4 Independent Company soon arrived as
reinforcements.
The 2/2
and 2/4 alongside many brave Timorese locals operated in guerrilla fashion
against the Japanese from 1941-43 and caused much damage. The Japanese
reprisals against the locals were brutal and forced local support to
shrink and Australian forces withdrawn. 2/2 was later renamed Commando
Squadron.
